This guide walks you through the process end-to-end so you can start using Spark for near-instant, zero-fee BTC transactions.
What is Spark BTC
Spark is a next-generation Bitcoin Layer 2 protocol built for instant, zero-fee payments.
It enables BTC transfers, stablecoin creation, and token movement directly on Bitcoin using the BTKN token standard.
When you convert BTC to Spark BTC, you’re effectively locking your BTC in a co-signed deposit address (shared between you and Spark Operators).
Your UTXO never leaves your control — Spark simply tracks the state and settles everything back to the Bitcoin blockchain when you exit.
Key benefits:
1:1 backing with your Bitcoin on L1
Instant transfers and token support
No transaction fees within Spark
Very low withdrawal fees to Bitcoin mainnet
Full self-custody through your Xverse Wallet
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
The Xverse Wallet installed and updated
A small amount of BTC on the Bitcoin mainnet to cover network fees
Access to the Magic Eden desktop app, where you can view your BTC and Spark BTC balances side by side
Step-by-step: deposit BTC from Bitcoin L1 to Spark using Xverse
Open Xverse Wallet
Launch Xverse and go to your Bitcoin dashboard.Select “Convert”
Choose the Convert button to access the Spark deposit feature.
Enter your amount
Enter how much BTC you’d like to move to Spark.
You’ll see a detailed quote before confirming, including all applicable fees. There are two small fees involved:
L1 transaction fee: paid when sending BTC from mainnet to Spark.
L2 claim fee: a “max claim fee” you prepay to automatically complete the Spark-side claim once confirmed.
Confirm and wait for verification
Once your BTC transaction receives three confirmations, Xverse automatically generates and broadcasts the claim transaction on Spark.
This step is fully automated — no manual actions needed.
Check your balances
After the transaction finalizes:Your Spark BTC balance will appear in Xverse.
You’ll see your Spark BTC holdings reflected on the Magic Eden desktop interface as well.
Moving BTC back to mainnet (withdraw)
When you’re ready to return BTC to the Bitcoin mainnet, open your Xverse Wallet and choose:
Convert → Spark BTC → BTC or Withdraw.
Xverse will handle the reverse transaction and broadcast it to the Bitcoin blockchain, restoring your BTC to your L1 balance once confirmed.
