Bitcoin Wallet Hygiene: Payment Wallet

Native Segwit (bc1q) & Nested Segwit (3) Addresses are mainly used as Payment Wallets.

It's best to ensure that the payment wallet only consists of UTXOs with common sats. This way, you wouldn't find yourself accidentally sending any precious ordinals or rare sats to miners as fees.

UTXOs made up of common sats are often referred to as: Spendable Bitcoin.

As a general rule of thumb, it's the SAFEST option to use a wallet that separately stores spendable Bitcoin on a Payment Wallet, and all other assets in your Ordinals Wallet.

The Magic Eden Wallet does just that!

Bitcoin Wallet Hygiene: Ordinals Wallet

Taproot (bc1p) Addresses are mainly used as Ordinals Wallets.

The Ordinals Wallet is best used to safekeep your:

  • Ordinal Inscriptions

  • Rare Sats

  • BRC-20 Tokens

  • Runes

You wouldn't want to store any spendable Bitcoin on your Ordinals Wallet, as they can't be spent due to how Bitcoin Wallets connect to dApps.
